Big picture/Need Analysis

The stakeholder is the VP from Quality System who is devoted to foster a LEAN culture at the cooperate. He introduced to me what is  LEAN and after that he wondered can I create training  content concerning "Humble Inquiry", which is a core problem-solving skill under the umbrella of LEAN. I asked several questions in our discussion including "What is your expectation of this project and what do you expect our audience to obtain from the learning", "Who is the audience of this project", "Why Humble Inquiry is so particular and why you choose it"...All these questions serve to help me to identify the needs and to craft learning objectives:

1) The ultimate goal is to be familiar with Humble Inquiry, which lays foundation for Staffs' LEAN learning later.

2) The learning objectives include:  a) Recall characteristics of Humble Inquiry  b) Compare Humble Inquiry  with other types of Inquiry  c) Describe major elements in Johari Window and ORJI Model d) Apply Humble Inquiry principles in daily work

Challenges and Solutions

The  material I got is the book "Humble Inquiry " by Edgar Schein with 144 pages and difficult modules. When I was reading the book, I kept in mind questions such as which information needs to be included based on the learning objective? How to organize the information? I narrowed down the Infor into 4 parts based on the learning objectives.

Then, how to present the info? This module is imbedded  with abstract concepts, modules and we can not get rid of these parts because they explain why Humble Inquiry is important. How to make sure our audience understand them, and at the same time, to still deliver a pleasant learning experience?  In order to show instead of tell the information, I decided to create a series of animated videos via PowToon to introduce the major concepts and modules concerning Humble Inquiry. Compared with text -only information, animated video is more engaging in terms of presenting the information. Besides of that, I also decided to integrate scenario to facilitate the understanding of abstract knowledge by putting audience under each specific context and to show them how does humble inquiry look like in reality . The graphic below demonstrate my "Action Mapping" process.
