To be able to identify occurrence and to determine the best corrective actions to ensure those things don't happen again is very important under healthcare setting. This training used to be in-person training only, SME requests an e-learning module as the coordinators do not come to office often as before. The learning goal for this module is that learners will identify different forms of Occurrence, and follow the right procedures to report the Occurrence. Besides of meeting learning objectives, another thing SMS wants to achieve is to make it engaging as she noticed that some audience were not able to focus all the time in the face-to-face training.
Problems and Solutions
1) To make it more engaging.
I helped the VP of the Quality Systems to record and edit a short video on why occurrence is crucial as well as take some "yes" and "no" pictures for the quiz feedback. Instead of text-only information, audience is provided with the opportunity of seeing their leaders demonstrating the message, it engages the audience more by building a kind of "dialogue" between audience and the presenter.
Problems and Solutions
2) To create branches of roles.
In order to assign different groups of audience the right content as well as to track learning progress easier in LMS, I created the branches of roles. By doing this, audience will firstly learn the shared content together, then they will be led to specific scenarios designed only for their roles.
Problems and Solutions
3) View all the content before moving to next section.
Stakeholders mentioned that they would like to make sure audience would view all the content before moving to the next section and do not skip any of the content. I did several designs to achieve this goal based on different contents:
a. Disable "next" button only after the video watching is complete
b. Set variables so learners need to complete each section before moving forward.
c. Set triggers so learners need to view all markers before moving forward.
After receiving the feedback concerning learner experience from the pilot testing, I also created "stuck here" button as "Aid" to scaffolding the learning process.
